Kenya Air Force (KAF) in conjunction with other Government and Non-Governmental agencies facilitated the distribution of relief food to areas affected by floods in Garissa. Areas hardest-hit by the floods are Ijara, Hulugho, Sangailu, Bothai, Galmagala. The situation has been worsened by poor roads rendered impassable by rains.
The KAF since Monday, 16th December 2019 has delivered food and non-food items to several locations in Garissa. The items include rice, wheat flour, maize flour, sugar, blankets, mattresses and nutritious supplements for children. KAF further encountered cases of some residents in need of emergency medical attention and airlifted them from Handaro to Garissa Refferal Hospital.
Present during the handing over of the relief items were Garissa Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane and Ijara MP Sophia Abdi Noor. Addressing members of the press at Garissa air strip, they commended the military for delivering food and non-food items to locals. They also assured residents of Garissa County that the humanitarian support will continue until the situation improves.
