KDF Five-A-Side Taekwondo Chairman’s Cup Championship

The Kenya Defence Force (KDF) held its annual 5-A-Side Taekwondo Chairman’s Cup Championship at Kahawa Garrison Gymnasium on Wednesday 24th May 2017. The event was opened by the Kahawa Garrison Camp Commandant Colonel Dennis Mutegi. This year’s event attracted many participating teams from different regions, including Kilifi, Kwale, Machakos, United States International University-Africa (USIU) and Mathare North.

This year’s chairman cup was very competitive and result for the finals were as follows in various categories: In the Upper Division Men Finals KDF won against Mathare North. In the same category for Women KDF (A) defeated KDF (B). In the Lower Division Finals Men USIU lost to KDF (B). Machakos also outshined Kilifi in the Women’s category taking home the gold medal. KDF emerged best overall after bagging 15 gold medals in the whole competition.

The Chairman, Brigadier Mohamed Badi, who is also the Base Commander Moi Air Base, in absentia noted that as the teams competed amongst themselves, they created good relationship and friendship through sports.
During the closing ceremony, the chief guest Kahawa Garrison Camp Commandant Colonel Dennis Mutegi congratulated the organizers and participants for playing a key role in making the event successful. He also said this event was meant to unite the nation. He encouraged the KDF participants to work hard to bring victory home on international games.
